Save obsidian for later

Classic AA gearing options were much more balanced and varied before Obsidian was introduce, at least on new servers.

It was a nice way to change things up on the legacy server, but on the first FS servers Rangora/Morpheus there wasn't much point going anything else.

It's so easy to get, so easy to incrementally increase and so good that 95% of players will get it over crafted and gha/serp/lower tier WB gear.

I think you should leave it disabled for a good while at the start (not just the 10 days auroria is disabled) so that other gear options are viable for a while. Otherwise you're going to get celes/divine obsidian weapons day 2 like the first fresh starts and we're basically back in hiram meta and people will just skip the dungeon/crafted gear progression.

Im going to disagree with you, people always say obsidian killed this killed htat but to be honest its how the gear progression is. dungeon gear is meant to be temp and crafted and obi are late game gear. Also in the start it will not be easy to get and it will be disabled for 10 days from what Aguru has said.

Agreed as much as i love the obsidian katana, there would be no reason in not going for obsidian gear immediately after auroria opens and getting a very easy and big power spike, in most cases one equip effect from an obsidian piece is equal to if not better then a lot of the lower tier set bonuses from crafted gear.

additionally adding obsidian at launch could take away a good amount from what people liked about 3.0 and before, that being the crafting of gear and investing labor into proficiencies, it wouldn't completely kill crafting gear altogether but it would remove a lot of incentive to do so, another big part of what drew a lot of players as well was the farming aspect that tied directly into the supply and demand of crafting gear.

Again I'm not saying obsidian would completely kill crafting but it will hurt it if its implemented at launch, obsidian was introduced at a point in which a good amount of people were in magnificent/epherium and with some pushing Delph with tons of the required mats to make gear being posted on the auction house daily, this gave crafted gear which was rng and didnt have equip effects other then the set bonuses a viable option as you were able to reliably and affordably have chances at making crafted gear by farming mats yourself and buying some mats off the AH, adding obsidian before the auction house market can even be established could hurt it in the long run

on the other hand some of the obsidian weapons such as the magic attack katana and healing power shortspear were GREAT for some hybrid classes without completely over shadowing its crafted counterparts in magic/healing power that being the 1h scepter and 1h club having these options were also great for people who liked to switch between specs, the 1h sword being great for melees wanting a slightly tankier option, the Magic attack dagger off hand being a good minmax option for dual wielding attack speed stacking enigmatists.

The weapons gave alot of variety/freedom to gear the way you wanted or needed, having to wait for the weapons just to play the way you want would suck but it would be healthier than having divine obsidian weapons 1 or 2 days after auroria opens.

tl:dr obsidian being introduced later would be way healthier for gear progression and the longevity of the server

I think that this would be for the best as you say, but I would like to add one thing to that in which could potentially make crafted gear even better. It should be considered the possibility of adding things to the crafted gear that will help with the problem of hybridization not being viable without certain Obsidian pieces like the Shortspear or Katana.

The best thing to do may be to add things to the crafted gear that make more hybrid classes viable, seeing as in Alpha there were a ton of things that made certain classes actually viable there that never had a chance to do anything once the changes they made afterwards went through.

For example Magic Attack used to also scale your healing (This was OP af and I'm not saying to do this necessarily, but there has to be some way to achieve making other less fortunate classes viable).

I understand that you cannot completely balance all the classes as there are way too many, but It would be interesting to see a new fresh meta instead of the DR Zug Zug and Mageball only Meta that persists even to this day in retail. This is an opportunity to create a new unseen meta while not necessarily killing what is already strong that could breath some life into the stale and already figured out meta that we have seen time and time again.

I also feel that 10 days is too short imo. As annoying as it would be to wait for obsidian, it does give players new direction and imo the best PvP was when it lasted longer because nobody was getting 1 tapped like that. A month to me sounds reasonable to me.
